WEC Lines has reported it has enhanced its container service linking Bilbao with the United Kingdom and Ireland by adding a second vessel and new ports of call. The service, now operating as NWC Spain, offers faster weekly rotations aiming to offer an alternative to road transport from Spain. Departing Bilbao on Fridays, the service reaches Liverpool on Mondays and Dublin on Wednesdays.

The new route includes Antwerp, Le Havre, Montoir-de-Bretagne, Bilbao, Gijón, Liverpool and Dublin. Transit times have been reduced to seven days from Antwerp and two from Montoir-de-Bretagne to Bilbao, supporting rail connections to Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Zaragoza and Agoncillo. From Liverpool, onward rail links are available to Belfast, Mossend and Greenock. (js)
