Valenciaport targets cleaner air

Fundación Valenciaport has joined the 'Life PMFree-ports' project to reduce particulate emissions in bulk terminals. Led by Spain’s Institute of Ceramic Technology (ITC-AICE), the €1.6 million initiative is co-financed by the EU’s Cinea life programme and aims to improve air quality in line with the 'zero pollution action plan'. The project will develop an environmental control tool to predict, monitor and minimise fugitive PM10 and PM2.5 emissions from bulk cargo handling.

It will also assess existing mitigation measures and identify best practices. Fundación Valenciaport will lead the demonstration phase at the Port of Valencia, validating the tool through pilot tests and emission analyses. "The tool will be integrated into port management systems, structurally incorporating environmental variables into the sector’s daily operations," stated Fundación Valenciaport. (js)
