Intermodal strength offsets slowdown

South Carolina Ports reports stable and efficient operations at the Port of Charleston despite a broader downturn affecting container volumes across the United States. According to its own information the port benefits from the deepest harbour on the US East Coast, with a depth of 52 feet, enabling two-way vessel traffic and unrestricted terminal access regardless of tide, supporting schedule reliability.

In November, SC Ports handled 197,942 teu, representing a six percent year-on-year decline. Vehicle volumes also fell, with 13,568 units processed, down nineteen percent compared with the same month last year. Intermodal activity remains a key. Inland Port Dillon recorded a December high of 4,466 rail moves, an increase of 137 percent year on year, driven by demand in the Pee Dee region. Inland Port Greer handled 10,671 rail moves, reflecting a thirty-three percent decline.
