Helsinki and Istanbul gain express hubs

Two express logistics giants have inaugurated major new facilities in Europe.

DHL Express has opened its largest-ever Finnish investment at Helsinki-Vantaa airport – a EUR 100 million gateway with direct apron access, a 16,000 sqm terminal, 90 loading bays with EV charging and automated sorting for 6,500 parcels per hour. The carbon-neutral site will start deliveries in October.

FedEx has launched a new 25,300 sqm global transit hub at Istanbul airport, tripling sorting capacity to 7,000 parcels per hour with automated systems and AI-enabled x-ray machines. The hub connects Turkey to the USA, Europe and the Middle East through 30 weekly flights, further integrating FedEx’s air and road networks. Both projects underline each corporation's continued investment in strategic infrastructure. (ah)
