Fourth weekly ‘Med Express’ train

The container rail service 'Med Express' between the port of Cologne-Niehl and Perpignan in southern France has increased its frequency from three to four round trips per week. Operated by Transfesa logistics, a subsidiary of DB cargo, the service connects Hgk logistics and intermodal’s Westkai terminal with the Mediterranean hub close to the Spanish border. Each train can shift up to 36 trailers or containers from road to rail as Hgk logistics reported.

"The transport services have been well received by the market. We would be delighted if more customers were to take advantage of this sustainable concept in future," said Rainer Görtler, managing director of Hgk intermodal. Perpignan was chosen as the gateway because goods from Spain, such as automotive parts and perishables, can be handled without the need to convert wagons to the Iberian track gauge. (js)
