Busy month for CBP in Philadelphia

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Philadelphia International Airport intercepted two major drug shipments this month.

On 5 and 9 July, CBP officers seized over 33 kg of ketamine from parcels arriving from France and Germany, falsely declared as air filters and car parts, and destined for Broward County, FL. A few days later, on 15 July, CBP uncovered more than 5.4 kg of psilocybin mushroom gummies, chocolates, and capsules in a shipment bound for Spain, labelled as supplements. Both seizures were made in the express consignment channel and highlight the growing use of airfreight for illicit trafficking.

According to CBP, ketamine—commonly misused as a party drug—is increasingly exploited by sexual predators. Psilocybin, though disguised as supplements, remains a controlled hallucinogen. Investigations are ongoing. (ah)
