Airfreight demand grows 5% in November
November saw a +5% year-on-year boost in global airfreight volumes, signalling early Christmas cheer, according to Xeneta. As the industry heads into its busiest season, September and October also showed solid demand growth of +3% and +4% respectively. However, the demand outlook suggests a tougher 2026 ahead, with overall growth expected to be modest.
Capacity expansion in November matched demand growth, but supply still lagged behind demand surges, resulting in a -5% year-on-year decline in global cargo spot rates to USD 2.73 per kg. Despite a month-on-month increase of +6% in rates, spot rates decreased across major trade lanes, with Europe-North America rates dropping -8%.
